Montjuic, Barcelona, Spain
HIKE: Five miles around Montjuic, Barcelona
HOPS: Olgod Barcelona
Montjuic, Barcelona is one of the few major hills in Barcelona and one of the most accessible urban hikes in the city, winding through gardens, past museums and even around Olympic stadiums.
We headed out from near Plaça Espanya and past the La Font del Gat portion of the Jardins de Larabel. We hadn't planned a route first, so we mostly wandered (but if you wanted to make a proper go of it, there are some good maps here where you can pick the distance you prefer).
Tip: If you're too jet lagged to make it down the hill, try the funicular, which can be used with your T-10 metro card. Or if you want to splurge on the view, the cable car will take you to the beach. Both stations are found across from the Joan Miro Museum.
HOPS
Just over a mile from Plaça Espanya is Ølgod, a craft beer bar with a funky vibe. This bar had the best selection of craft beer that we found in Barcelona. Coming in at €5-8 per pint, it was a bit pricier than the ubiquitous, local Estrella, but worth it. The selection ranged from their house blonde to American stouts and sours.
During the hour that we were there, the Nordic-named place was dominated by tourists (perhaps because we were early birds) and the taps are primarily imports, so it wasn't distinctly "Barcelona," except for the tapas, which was good.
